Introduction to Canine Herbalism

Welcome to An Introduction to Canine Herbalism! In this short but information-packed course, you will learn about using herbs for many everyday conditions, such as internal and external parasites, bacterial colitis, cuts and burns, mild UTI, soft tissue injury and ear infection. While some of these issues can be addressed fully at home, others need to be seen by a vet and we will be very clear about that! In addition to developing a basic skill with choosing herbs for various conditions, we’ll learn about preparations -salves, compresses, honeys and electuaries, tinctures and glycerites, and how to dose capsules as well – how to understand herbal actions so you can select herbs outside of this course, and much more. I believe in a methodical approach, so each Lesson builds on the one before it – but feel free to start wherever you wish and move at your own pace. You have a year of access (and that can be extended if you need more time) and I will provide a Facebook group to serve as classroom, for discussion of the material and herbs in general.

The layout of the first Lesson is as follows:

  • About Herbalism – in the first Lesson we will dispel several myths about what herbalism is and isn’t!
  • How To Start an Herbal Apothecary – it can seem overwhelming when you’re starting out, but a few choice purchases and a list of what you will need as you go can help. 😊
  • How to start your own Materia Medica – this is a lifelong project, so don’t stress it right now, but focus on a few herbs you know you will use a lot, and getting to know them deeply, and it will be easier than trying to memorize 100 herbs all at once
  • Terms of the Trade – Actions, Constituents, Energetics

This is a lot, I know!  I will stick to the salient points and provide you with lots of great resources for further exploration, including my full Foundation course (16 Units, for aspiring practitioners).

Let’s get started.
